DENVER – Avalanche forwards Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne became unrestricted free agents Thursday.
Also joining them were Andrei Nikolishin, Matthew Barnaby, Jim Cummins and Steve Moore, whose season ended when he was punched from behind by Vancouver’s Todd Bertuzzi.
Kariya, a former UMaine star, missed 31 of the first 38 games with a sprained wrist and was able to play in only one playoff game after spraining his ankle in Colorado’s season finale. In 51 regular-season games, Kariya had a career-low 11 goals and 36 points.
Moore was hospitalized after the March 8 attack with three fractured vertebrae, facial cuts, post-concussion symptoms and amnesia. It isn’t known when, or if, he will play again.
