Island worth saving

Sears Island is still not safe. There are federal, state and corporate interests who would love to grab it for power and profit.

With most of the Maine coast in private hands, Sears Island is worth saving. It has unique ecological forms and unique flora and fauna. The public deserves it now and forever.

At the Green Futures Fair at 2:30 p.m. July 10, there will be a program on Sears Island. Joan Saxe of the Sierra Club will talk about the history of attempts by the state of Maine to industrialize the island. Steve Miller of the Islesboro Island Trust will talk about protection and preservation strategies for the long-term future of the island. Tom Seymour, local naturalist, will talk about the flora and fauna.

There will be time for questions and most importantly your dreams for the island. Please take time to attend this event.
