Bangor-Brewer

The Kiwanis Fourth of July Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 4, on Acme Road in Brewer, proceed down Wilson Street and across the Chamberlain Bridge, then turn right down Main Street in Bangor.

World War II veterans will lead off the parade, gathering at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn near the municipal pool on Wilson Street in Brewer. First Student will provide two buses for veterans who would like to ride in the parade. The buses will carry marching veterans from the end of the parade route back to their cars in Brewer.

The Bangor Band will offer a patriotic concert at 7 p.m. in Paul Bunyan Park.

Fireworks will be set off at 9:30 p.m. on the waterfront.

Bangor

The Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau will hold a “Tommyknockers & More” bus tour at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4, leaving from the Bangor waterfront in the Front Street parking lot next to the harbor master’s office.

The tour points out similarities between the city and the fictional town of Derry, Maine, the setting of several novels by author Stephen King. The tour guide will be Ryan King.

Shaw’s Supermarket will hold two fund-raisers to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. Donations will be earmarked for children who are cancer patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 4, Shaw’s will ask for a donation from those who park in its Main Street lot.

A barbecue fund-raiser will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. outside the store.

Bar Harbor

The Fourth of July celebration will kick off at 6 this morning with a blueberry pancake breakfast at the athletic field on Park Street. It will last as long as the supply of pancakes lasts.

An antiques show and sale will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at the YMCA at the corner of Park and Main streets.

The parade through the town will start at 10 a.m. today, followed by a lobster feed at the athletic field.

On Sunday, fireworks, shot from the town pier, will begin about 9 p.m. over Frenchman Bay.

Brewer

The annual Kiwanis Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by Bangor Noontime Kiwanis, will be held from 6 to 10 a.m. Sunday, July 4, at Brewer Auditorium. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children 8 and under.

The fourth annual July 4th Solidarity Celebration, sponsored by the Greater Bangor Area Central Labor Council and Food and Medicine, will be held starting at 5 p.m. at the Solidarity Center and Eastern Park, 20 Ayer St., off South Main Street. The event will feature food, children’s activities, raffles and live music. Featured speaker is Machinists’ International President Tom Buffenbarger.

Brooks

The Brooks Booster Club will hold the annual Brooks Field Days today and Sunday, July 4, in the Brooks Park. The festivities begin at 8 a.m. today, “Kids Day,” with events throughout the day. Gates open at 8 a.m. Sunday, with fireworks set for 10 p.m.

Camden

The Camden Rotary Club will hold its annual Summer Concert on the Village Green from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4. There will be food served and live music throughout the day. Featured performers include Stan Catell and his band, Steelin’ Thunder, and The Al Corey Swing Band. A 50-50 raffle drawing will be held in the evening. All proceeds from the event will go to the Rotary Scholarship Fund for local high school students.

Cutler

Fireworks over Cutler Harbor are scheduled for 9 p.m. tonight, the traditional highlight of the Fourth of July weekend.

The Cutler Harbor 5-kilometer run is at 8 a.m. today at the Bay Ridge Elementary School. A flag-raising ceremony follows at the town circle at 10 a.m., and the parade starts at 10:15 a.m.

On Sunday, the Blessing of the Fleet is at 1 p.m. and lobster boat races at 2 p.m.

There is a community potluck picnic at 6 p.m. Sunday at the town park next to the Masonic Hall. Hot dogs, hamburgers and soda are provided, and picnic-goers are expected to bring the rest.

Glenburn

The annual boat parade will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at Lakeside Landing, Pushaw Lake.

Dexter

The town will sponsor a fireworks display at dusk tonight over Lake Wassookeag. A boat parade sponsored by local camp owners will be held at 10 a.m. on the lake.

Eastport

The USS Kauffman is in port. The frigate will be open for tours from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. today and 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, July 4.

The 44th annual flag raising will take place at sunrise Sunday at the breakwater. A craft fair opens at 10 a.m., followed by the annual blueberry-eating contest.

The Grand Independence Parade is at 2 p.m. This year’s theme is “Honor Those Who Serve Our Country.”

Greenville

A variety of events will be offered July 4, including a parade at 1 p.m. from Indian Hill, a daylong craft fair, a tug of war at 3:30 p.m. and a concert featuring Dave Mallett at 7 p.m., all at Junction Wharf. Fireworks will be displayed at 9 p.m. from Bullwinkle’s parking lot.

Houlton

The Houlton Agricultural Fair starts today and runs until July 5 at Community Park.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4, and proceeds down Main Street to Market Square. Fireworks will take place at 9 p.m. Sunday at Community Park.

Jonesport

The town’s activities take place today. There is a blueberry pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at Sawyer Memorial Church and a road race at 8 a.m. Lobster boat races are set for 10 a.m., and the parade starts at 4 p.m.

The day ends with fireworks at dusk, shot off from Kelley’s Point Campground. There also is a street dance featuring a live band starting at 9 p.m. at the T.A. King and Son parking lot.

Limestone

The Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July celebration, which kicked off on Monday, will continue with a parade to be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4, and with family events held at Trafton Lake all day. Fireworks will go off at dusk.

Lubec

Festivities run both Saturday and Sunday, July 3-4. Highlights include vendors on Water Street 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days; a flea market behind AnnaBells all day today; a farmers market 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 106 Main St.; and a library book sale starting at 10 a.m. both days.

Fireworks take place at 9 p.m. tonight at the Lubec School, and the parade takes place at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Machias

The Lipizzaner Stallions, trained horses from Austria, perform at the Down East Fairgrounds in Whitneyville, with shows at 2 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Sunday. The “Art By the Bay” show of art, crafts and antiques runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday beside Helen’s Restaurant.

Fireworks are set for tonight at dusk on the causeway, and the parade starts at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mattawamkeag

A dedication of the Veterans Memorial Park and the Mattawamkeag Honor Roll will take place at 10 a.m. today

Owls Head

The Fabulous ’50s, Sensational ’60s & Antique Aeroplane Show will be held at 10 a.m. today and Sunday, July 3-4, at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Admission for one day is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children 6-11. Museum members and children under 5 get in free. Family admission is $22.

Rockwood

Fourth of July events will be held today starting with a chicken barbecue at 11:30 a.m. as well as games for children, live entertainment and a craft fair at or near the fire station.

At 3 p.m., the Moosehead Lake Vacation and Sportsmen’s Association will sponsor its annual rubber duck fund-raising race. The ducks will be placed into the Moose River at the bridge. Fireworks will be displayed at dusk over the public docks.

Sebec

Several July 4 events are on tap, most of them sponsored by the Sebec Freedom Riders Snowmobile Club. Sunday morning will feature a public breakfast at the Community Church and canoe races. A parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the village followed by a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the Sebec Town Hall on the Ladd Road, the Humble Farmer, a stand-up comedian, will perform throughout the day; Joe Bolf of Greenville, a chain saw artist, will perform four shows throughout the afternoon; and Dan Baker, a magician, will perform at 4 p.m. Also scheduled during the day is a dunk tank, children’s games, an auction at 2 p.m. sponsored by the Sebec Fire Department, a daylong auction, and refreshments.

Skowhegan

The town of Skowhegan, the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce, Skowhegan Savings Bank and Franklin Savings Bank will hold a parade starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 4, at the fairgrounds and proceeding down Madison Avenue.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. or dusk, fireworks will be displayed at the Eddy.

Thomaston

Fourth of July events will be held today, starting with a pancake breakfast at 6 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge.

A 1-kilometer Kids Race starts at 8 a.m. on Beechwood Street and a 5-kilometer race for adults will start at 8:30 a.m. A craft tent will open at 9 a.m. behind the Masonic Lodge. The traditional pet show will start at 9:15 a.m. at the high school.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed from Georges Valley High School to U.S. Route 1 (Main Street). After the parade a chicken barbecue will be held at noon. Entertainment for the evening will be by The Martinis and The Rock-It Band. Fireworks will start at 9:15 p.m.
