The major change in Eastbrook’s annual celebration is a Bass Fishing Derby, writes Stefan Nadzo of the upcoming Eastbrook Days!

That celebration begins with two events: roller-skating for all ages from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Cave Hill School, and a street dance with live music by Phoenix for anyone 21 and older, 9 p.m.-midnight at the Eastbrook Community Building.

Admission for the skating is $5, and specially designed skates will be provided to protect the gymnasium floor. Don’t bring your own skates, but be sure to wear socks.

The fishing derby is an all-day event ending at 4:30 p.m. and, Nadzo writes, “catch may be from any pond in Eastbrook including Abrams, Molasses, Scammon and Webb, all of which have public access for boat launch.”

The cost is $5 per ticket-per fish, and can be purchased in advance at the Eastbrook town office by calling 565-3307, at Franklin Trading Post or from individuals the day of the event.

Prizes are $100, $50 and $25 for first through third place for adults, and $75, $50 and $25 for first through third place for those under age 16, as well as gift certificates and sports merchandise from local merchants.

Among the Saturday events are a parade at 9 a.m., an all-day bake sale and activities such as bingo, cribbage, bounce house, fun food, raffles and a craft show.

Eastbrook Days! also includes a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the area of the Eastbrook Fire House, a supper at 5 p.m. at the Grange Hall and, to end the celebration, fireworks at 9 p.m. at Molasses Pond.

The schedule, with driving directions, can be found at www.eastbrookmaine.org.

The Halcyon Duo of flutist Eve Friedman and pianist Roberto Pace is featured in the next SummerKeys Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Lubec Congregational Christian Church.

The concert is free, but donations are accepted for the church’s piano fund, and reservations can be made for the Concert Boat from Eastport by calling 853-2500.

Boat tickets are $12 in advance or $15 the night of the concert.

People with ties to the Alexander-Crawford area will want to attend the 15th annual Genealogy Fair 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at Alexander Elementary School on the Airline Road.

Valdine Atwood will be there with her records collection for your research, and attendees should bring information to share or questions to ask.

As an outreach program of the Alexander-Crawford Historical Society, census records to 1920, cemetery records and back issues of the group’s newsletter will be available.

Members of Alexander Grange will supply snacks and lunch.

For more information or to reserve a table, call John Dudley, 454-7476.

The public is invited to take The Saints Tour, sponsored by Moosehead Historical Museum, Thursday, July 22, and Friday, July 23, to New Brunswick.

The $175 per person cost includes transportation, overnight accommodations, lunch in St. Andrews and all admissions, tours and refreshments.
