HARRINGTON – A 23-year-old Harrington woman and mother of two was killed Saturday evening when the car driven by her husband rolled over on Marshville Road, the road on which they lived.
Lindsay L. Strout, mother of a 1-month-old and a 2-year-old, was ejected from the speeding car at about 7:50 p.m. and died instantly, according to police.
Two other adult female passengers were injured, one seriously but not life-threatening.
Only one of the four in the car was wearing a seat belt.
Police determined that alcohol was a factor in the crash, but did not give details because the accident still is under investigation.
“This is a classic example of a holiday weekend accident,” said Deputy Travis Willey of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. “Alcohol, speed and seat belts were all an issue. She was ejected, and she would not have been if she were wearing a seat belt.”
Scott Strout, Lindsay Strout’s 24-year-old husband, was the driver. His sister, Holly Strout, 23, of Harrington was one of the passengers. The other passenger was Heather Pixley, 24, who is not from the area.
Willey and Sgt. Dennis Perry were called to Marshville Road, where Strout’s 2003 Pontiac Grand Am had flipped onto its roof in a field just off the road.
Ambulances from both Pleasant River and Cherryfield services transported the injured to Down East Community Hospital in Machias.
Two Maine State Police troopers, Elmer Farren and Myles Carpenter, assisted at the scene. Troopers Perry Hatch and Kyle Willette are handling the accident’s reconstruction and forensic mapping.
“It’s a holiday weekend, and everyone wants to go out and have fun,” Willey said. “These people were returning home from somewhere.”
The Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home of Milbridge is handling arrangements for the service.
