Colbeth powers Calais past Waldo

BELFAST – Steve Colbeth hit a grand slam and a single Tuesday to power Calais to a 10-4 Zone 1 American Legion baseball victory over Waldo.

James Ramsey chipped in with a solo homer for the winners. Russ McLean added two singles.

Paul Hermon hit a two-run homer for Waldo and Brendan Gardner notched three singles. Josh Gallant singled twice and James Cummings had an RBI single.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, P.J. Dowe reached on an error, moved up on Nick Larochelle’s sacrifice bunt, took third on a groundout and scored on a two-out error in the eighth inning as the Comrades prevailed.

Josh Young struck out eight and walked one in seven innings before Phil Cayford pitched a scoreless seventh.

Bangor had tied it in the seventh when Nate Hall doubled and eventually scored on Cayford’s sacrifice fly. Hall led the hosts with two doubles and a single.

Joey Kane, Josh Withee and Nick Pullen stroked two singles apiece for Penquis. Stareter James Gray struck out 10 in six innings and added a double.

At Hampden, Eric Libby knocked an RBI single in the sixth to give Hampden the winning edge.

Billy Shannon added an RBI single for the winners behind winner Chris Pease, who pitched a three-hitter.

Bo Thomas cracked a two-run double for the Twins and Brad Goode also had a double.

At Millinocket, Chad Lavway tossed a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Patriots to the win.

Tim Lyford had a double, single and RBI for the winners. Chris Parsons and Andrew York added two singles each.

Steve Whitney doubled and singled to lead the Lumber.

Quirk Auto 5, Aerus Electrolux 1

At Husson College, Bangor, Craig Harvey struck out seven and allowed only one run on two hits and two walks to help push Quirk Auto past Aerus Electrolux.

Aaron Largay doubled and singled with two RBIs for Quirk Auto and Jason Harvey also hit a double and a single. Adam Sheehan and Cliff Urquhart each hit two singles.

Brook Sturdevant had a double for Aerus Electrolux and Justin Burns singled.
