Clayton Achey, a custodian at Forest Hills Consolidated School in Jackman, has won the second A. Burleigh Oxton Award for Excellence.

The award, presented June 22 to Achey at the 36th annual Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine Custodial and Maintenance Conference, recognizes the best school custodial and maintenance professional in the state.

An avid fly fisherman and father of five, Achey has taught an eight-week fly-fishing course at the school, and taken groups of students on educational nature hikes. Achey also drives the school bus in the afternoon and attends community events.

The two runners-up for the award were Edward Patterson of Corinth, SAD 64 supervisor of maintenance and custodial services, and Phil Rundgren, who works at Massabesic High School in Waterboro.

The three finalists received small cash awards and attended the conference free of charge. Achey’s name will be engraved on a plaque to be displayed in Jackman until next year’s winner is announced.
