Bangor

150th anniversary

N.H. Bragg held an open house to mark its 150th anniversary June 9 at 92 Perry Road.

Two of NASCAR’s fastest race cars, Matt Kenseth’s No. 17 and Kurt Busch’s No. 97, were on hand for the event.

More than 80 manufacturers were represented with displays and demonstrations of their products throughout the day.

Reaching the 150-year mark, N.H. Bragg joins a select group of Maine companies formed before the Civil War that have successfully adapted to change. The company is still owned and managed by descendants of its founder.

John Bragg, the fifth generation, is president of the company, and Jon Eames, the sixth generation, is vice president. The company was founded in 1854 by Norris Hubbard Bragg, who sold supplies to blacksmiths. In subsequent years, N.H. Bragg added horseless carriage parts as well as industrial and welding supplies.

The company now employs more than 70 people in Bangor and Westbrook, selling products to both businesses and the public at large.
