Minors arrested for alcohol possession

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested at an Orono supermarket Friday after an off-duty sheriff’s deputy said he spotted them with alcohol.

The deputy detained the girls in their car at 5:45 p.m. and called police after he saw one of the juveniles leave Bell’s Orono IGA with a wine cooler under her shirt, according to Orono police Officer Andrew Whitehouse.

The girl later admitted to stealing the alcohol and was arrested for shoplifting and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, he said.

Whitehouse found three bottles of perfume in the car, which the other 15-year-old girl admitted to stealing from Sears in Bangor, and a bottle of liquor. That girl was arrested for receiving stolen property and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

The perfume was valued at an estimated $100, Whitehouse said.

The 16-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger were both charged with illegal possession of tobacco products by a minor after Whitehouse found six packs of cigarettes in the car.

All four of the teenagers were released Friday night, Whitehouse said.

A Hermon woman was summoned for possession of marijuana Thursday afternoon after she was allegedly caught speeding in Bangor.

Shelly Phillips, 34, of Hermon was pulled over at 4 p.m. Thursday for traveling 48 mph in a 25 mph-zone on Essex Street, according to police reports.

An officer smelled burning marijuana inside the 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Phillips was driving, though Phillips initially denied having the drug. She allegedly later said she had thrown one joint out the window before she was stopped.

A search of the car turned up a plastic bag containing two partial marijuana joints and some loose marijuana.

Phillips was summoned for possession of marijuana and for exceeding the speed limit.
