Tardiff, Thomas help Orono sweep Calais Brewer, Penquis win three games apiece

OLD TOWN – Mike Tardiff hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to give Orono a 4-3 win over Calais in the first game of an American Legion Zone 1 doubleheader Saturday.

Orono also won the second game, 3-2.

In the first game, Tardiff also hit a double and a single for Orono. Dusty Thomas hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and Cory Estes had two singles. Steve Colbeth hit a solo home run in the eighth for Calais and Rob McLean doubled.

In the second game, Ryan Levesque doubled and singled for Orono. James Ramsdell and Colbeth each had two singles for Calais.

Lincoln sweeps Waldo

At Belfast Saturday, Jeremy Ham hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and singled to help lead Lincoln Lumber past Waldo Wildcats 9-1 in the first game. Lincoln also won the second game, 12-9.

In the first game, Nate Cousineau hit a two-run homer in the third inning and singled for Lincoln. Gerald Worster hit a solo home run and a single and Matt Leino had a double and a single.

James Potvin hit a RBI single in the first inning for Waldo and Nick Arthers singled and scored.

In the second game, Cody Thompson hit a double and three singles and scored three runs for Lincoln. Tom Lasko doubled twice and Everett Houghton had two singles.

Mike Cummings hit a double and two singles with a RBI for Waldo. Nick Arthers had two doubles and Josh Gallant doubled and singled. Kent Spaulding had two singles with two RBI.

Brewer sweeps Hampden

At Brewer Saturday, Joe Robicheau had two doubles and a single to drive in three runs and help lead Brewer to the 12-3 first game win over Hampden. Brewer also took the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Pat Moran had a double and two singles with three RBIs and Kevin McAvoy doubled with three RBIs.

Ian Lee had a RBI double for Hampden and Chris Pease doubled.

In the second game, Moran had three singles with three RBIs for Brewer and McAvoy doubled and singled with a RBI. J.T. Davis hit a two-run single.

Eric Libby tripled for Hampden. Chris Morris had two singles and Ian Lee hit a double.

At Brewer Sunday, 14-year-old Jimmy Nicknair gave up just three hits and two walks while striking out five to help lead Brewer to the win.

Kevin McAvoy hit a home run, double, and a single for Brewer and Andy Otis had two singles with three RBIs. Matt Grimes doubled and singled with two RBIs and Jeff Miller hit a three run double. Ben Davis doubled and singled with a RBI and Nye Gifford hit a two-run double.

Chris Parsons had three singles for Presque Isle and Craven Baker doubled and singled with a RBI.

Penquis wins three of four

At Dover-Foxcroft on Sunday, Chris Rabideau fired a six-hitter in the nightcap, striking out four and walking three, and Penquis scored all three runs in the fifth on Danny White’s squeeze bunt, Eric Day’s RBI double and Jason Weymouth’s run-scoring single.

The 3-1 triumph followed a 9-2 win in the opener.

James Gray doubled and singled for Penquis.

Brendan Gardiner doubled home Waldo’s run and Mike Mayer pitched a complete-game six-hitter.

In the first game, Josh Pelletier’s two-run double in the seven-run sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and Josh Withee added a three-run double as Penquis broke the game open.

Withee also had an RBI single and White doubled and singled and had an RBI for Penquis. Gray hurled a four-hitter, striking out four and not walking anyone.

Nick Arthers had an RBI single for Waldo and Drew Mericer had the other RBI.

On Saturday, Jason Weymouth’s two-run single in the sixth inning erased a 3-2 deficit after Trenton had won the first game 10-6 thanks to a five-run fourth inning.

Day pitched a five-hitter, striking out one and walking one, and Pelletier had a pair of singles.

Mark Clapp’s double and Will Rosethal’s RBI single led Trenton.

In the opener, Arshwin Asjes’ two-run double and Collin Henry’s two-run single keyed the five-run fourth that built the lead to 8-0.

Asjes also had a single for the winners and Blake Wessel had a double and two singles.

Day drove in five runs for Penquis with a grand slam and a single.

Bangor, Hampden split

At Bangor Sunday, Hampden and Bangor split a doubleheader with Bangor taking the first game 9-0 and Hampden winning the second 9-3.

In the first game, Anthony Derosa allowed five hits while walking two batters and striking out nine in eight innings to pace the Comrades.

Brian Hackett had a double and a single, and Nate Hall singled twice for Bangor.

Ian Lee doubled to pace Hampden.

In the second game, Chris Pease allowed seven hits while notching five strikeouts in his complete-game win.

Chris Morris had a double, two singles and two RBIs. Blaine Meehan hit three singles. Joel Neill doubled and singled, and Brian McGinley had two singles and two RBIs.

Brian Hackett had two singles for the Comrades.

Bangor sweeps Presque Isle

At Bangor Saturday, the Bangor Comrades swept Presque Isle’s Patriots with a 14-1 victory in the first game and an 11-3 win in the second.

In the first game, Phil Cayford combined with Jordan Heath on a two-hitter while Bangor banged out 11 hits.

P.J. Dowe, Jason Eremita and Nick Larochelle each singled twice for Bangor. Mike Larochelle had two-run triple.

Chris Parsons’ sacrifice flyin the first scored PI’s lone run.

In the second game, Brian Hackett held Presque Isle to four hits while also hitting two singles and driving in three runs.

Cayford had a double and two singles for Bangor. Nate Hall had a double and a single and Alex Means singled twice.

Chad Lavway’s two singles paced the Patriots.
