Someone broke into an office early Tuesday morning at True Farms Inc. in Charleston, stealing three firearms and a safe containing a diamond bracelet and about $2,000 in cash.
Penobscot County Deputy Josh Tibbetts said the theft happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Neighbors of the Ridge Road farm told the deputy that their dog started barking around that time and they saw a car drive by shortly after.
Tibbetts said the safe had been mounted to a filing cabinet in a back room of the office. The farm already had been broken into twice before in the last year, the deputy said.
The owner of True Farms Inc. used the safe to hold cash because that’s how he paid for vegetables that pickers brought in, Tibbetts said. The bracelet belonged to the owner’s wife.
Tibbetts said he is following one lead in the case, but so far he doesn’t have any suspects.
A routine traffic stop led to several charges for a Bangor woman, including possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a loaded gun.
Bangor police Officer Mark Hathaway stopped a car Monday night driven by Michelle Landry, 31, on Bolling Street. The officer’s report said he observed her driving erratically.
Hathaway told Landry to get out of the car and when she did, the woman removed her jacket, tossing it next to her male passenger.
According to the police report, Hathaway asked Landry what she was hiding but she said she only took off the jacket to be more comfortable.
Hathaway found that Landry’s license had been suspended on July 5 and she was taken to the police station on charges of operating after suspension. Landry’s passenger walked home, the report said.
A search of Landry’s vehicle found a loaded 9mm handgun hidden inside an opened 12-pack of beer. Hathaway also searched Landry’s purse and found a spoon with white residue and two hypodermic needles.
A Bangor man was charged with assault after his live-in girlfriend showed up at the police station with bruises and wearing only shorts and her bra.
The 18-year-old woman told Bangor police Officer Shawn Green that her boyfriend had assaulted her. Green’s report said he observed many abrasions on the woman as well as a deep bite mark on her arm.
Green asked the woman if she wanted to go back to the apartment so the officer could take photographs. She said she would like to get a new shirt.
The woman told Green that her boyfriend has assaulted her “several” times before but this time he “lost control,” according to the report.
While Green accompanied the woman to the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Officer Brad Hanson tracked down David Maggiacomo, 27, in the YMCA parking lot. He apparently had followed the woman after she fled the apartment.
Maggiacomo was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with assault. He also was ordered to stay away from the woman.
Green gave the woman information to contact Spruce Run so she could set up a safe place to stay for awhile.
