McAvoy to play softball in international tourney

Husson College freshman Carolyn McAvoy of Brewer, the North Atlantic Conference’s Rookie of the Year, has been invited to play on the USA Athletes softball team that will travel to Italy to participate in the Trieste International Tournament during the first week of August.

McAvoy will leave for Europe on Aug. 2 and play her first game with the USA Athletes on Aug. 3 against Germany. The team will also travel for games in Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. The U.S. squad will compete against teams from seven European nations.
