Lighten cup

Some of summer’s sweet pleasures aren’t conducive to summer fashions – ice cream and short shorts don’t mix, unless you have a superfast metabolism. And those frosty coffee beverages? Not great with a bikini. But Starbucks has come to the rescue with a new line of Frappuccino Light blended coffees, which have about 35 percent fewer calories and half the fat of their full-bodied counterparts. Check them out at your nearest Starbucks (in Target in Bangor, or in Barnes & Noble in Augusta, or you could wait for the new Starbucks to open near the Bangor Mall, where Papa Gino’s used to be).

Cheers!

Big Brothers-Big Sisters? It is a big deal! The organization will hold its fourth annual Mount Desert Island Wine Classic on Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor. Proceeds from the event will benefit Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Eastern Maine. Tickets cost $45 before July 23 and $50 after. There will be no ticket sales at the door. For information or reservations, call (800) 492-5550, ext. 239.

Savor Skowhegan

It’s rare to find “street food” in Maine’s smaller towns, but residents and visitors to Skowhegan will be able to sample treats from area restaurants under the stars on Wednesday, July 21. The event will feature food from Heritage House, Lakewood Inn, Old Mill Pub, Village Bakery and St. Anthony’s Soup Kitchen, as well as a beer garden and live music by Hidden Drive. Tickets are available through July 15 (that’s tomorrow) at the Chamber of Commerce office. For information, call 474-3621.
