FALMOUTH – Gilsland Farm Audubon Center will host butterfly watching from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24.
The event will start with a slide show highlighting Maine’s butterflies and offering tips on identification, then continue with a walk around Gilsland Farm to observe butterflies foraging in the fields.
If time allows, the group will head to Mackworth Island or another nearby destination to search for different species and learn techniques for participating in the North American Butterfly Count. This annual count strives to keep track of butterfly populations and distribution across the county.
The program, sponsored by the Joanne Van Sambeek Memorial Fund, costs members $8 per adult and $4 per child, and costs non-members, $10 per adult and $6 per child. Reservations are necessary and participants should bring a lunch or a snack. For information, or for reservations, call 781-2330.
