BANGOR – Diane Monroe Smith, author of “Fanny and Joshua: The Enigmatic Lives of Frances Caroline Adams and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain,” will speak about her latest book, “Chamberlain at Petersburg: The Charge From Hell,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Bangor Public Library.

Many people have heard the story of Joshua Chamberlain at Gettysburg. Fewer know about his service during Grant’s Overland Campaign in 1864. Smith’s book includes a previously unpublished Chamberlain manuscript, a dramatic first-person account of the Maine officer’s near-fatal wounding at the Battle of Petersburg. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
