The Maine Icebreakers, a boys 16-under basketball team, won two games Wednesday to reach the Round of 16 at their national tournament in New Orleans.
The Icebreakers, who finished third in their preliminary-round pool, rallied to defeat the South Texas Saints 64-56 in their first game Wednesday. Jay Uhrin of Winterport led the Icebreakers with 24 points, including 6-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Andrew York of Mars Hill added 11 points while Greg Whitaker of Presque Isle scored 10.
Later Wednesday, the Icebreakers upended the California Seaside Pals 62-49. Uhrin scored 19 points and Whitaker 10 to lead the way.
In their final game of pool play Tuesday night, Maine fell to the New York Elmont Panthers 74-68. Leading the way were Uhrin with 13 points, Daniel McCue and York with 12 each and Whittaker with 10.
