Howat single lifts Bangor East past Hampden-Newburgh

MILLINOCKET – Chris Howat ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh Thursday to advance Bangor East to the championship round of the District 3 9-10 baseball tournament.

Connor Griffin and Josh Szewczyk each added two singles for the winners. Howat finished with two singles.

Ben Clark had an RBI single to lead Hampden-Newburgh.

At Brooklin, lefty Tim Sawyer tossed a two-hitter, striking out six and walking two, and Josh Gale had a double, two singles and an RBI as Coastal captured the District 1 championship.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Coastal advances to the state tournament that begins Saturday at Calais. Coastal plays its opener Sunday.

Sawyer had an RBI single in the first inning to key a four-run rally.

Rashad Frazier and Joe Brown each had a double and Frazier knocked in a run.

Tyler Burrill and Brent Upton singled for Bucksport.

At Blue Hill, Casey Hull ripped three singles and plated two runs to lead Coastal to the win.

Ross Bowden doubled, singled and drove in three runs for the winners while Nate Hines and Steve Ensworth added RBI singles.

Eddie Robbins and Lucas Marks each singled for Bucksport.

Calais 12, Sunrise 2

At Calais, Stephanie Perry pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as Calais won the District 1 13-14 softball title.

Calais scored eight runs in the first inning to take control, a rally highlighted by Courtney Ayers’ two-run home run.

Ayers also doubled twice, while Jessa Moody tripled and singled.

Nicole Endre singled for Sunrise.
