On behalf of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Donna Sprague informs us that two wonderful choirs from Paris are returning to Bangor for their second visit since 1989.

The Choeur d’Enfants de Paris Saint Germain Des Pres, a choir of 35 boys and girls ages 11-14 and the Youth Choir of Greater Paris, 23 young people ages 16-23 with eight adults, appear in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at the church on Ohio Street.

Francis Bardot, who directs the choirs, is here as part of a monthlong tour of the northeastern United States and Canada.

After singing 21 years at the Paris Opera House, Sprague wrote, the Children’s Choir moved on “to a more typical choral repertoire.”

Both choirs were reorganized in 1999 and have toured much of the United States and Europe, working with international artists such as Seiji Ozawa and Luciano Pavarotti, among others.

Bardot’s 30-year career includes more than 2,000 concerts and 20 recordings as well as television programming.

Sandra Pottle will lead a tour of a medicine wheel garden and a labyrinth during the meeting of the St. Croix Valley International Garden Club at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Pottle Tree Farm in Perry.

Refreshments and guided hikes follow the meeting.

Festival coordinator Lisa Whitney reminds readers that the three-day Fort Knox Bay Festival, which runs Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25, begins with Teen Talent Night at 7 p.m. Friday at the Main Stage in downtown Bucksport.

Admission is $2.

Preregistration is required and applications are available at the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.

Saturday’s events begin with registration for the 5K Fun Run at 7 a.m. near Seaboard Federal Credit Union and close with fireworks over Fort Knox at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Sunday’s events include the Highway Legends Car Show 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Bucksport True Value Hardware and conclude with the final performance of “The Music Man” at 2 p.m. at Bucksport Auditorium.

Raffles, races, music, a parade, harbor tours and much more are part of the festival.

Alice French will be the vocalist for the 15th annual Big Band Dance 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Emerson Hall on Court Street in Castine.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for children and are available at the Castine Variety Store or in front of the U.S. Post Office the week of the dance.

The event, also featuring the 17-piece band Sentimental Journey, is sponsored by the Castine Arts Association to benefit the Castine Town Band.

Daniel and Gail VanWart’s Peaked Mountain Farm is one of more than 80 Maine farms in the Maine Department of Agriculture’s Open Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at their farm on 16 Ellery’s Lane in Dedham.

Island Fishermen’s Wives Association co-chairwomen Cari Quiterio and Angela Douglas invite you to the 15th annual Fishermen’s Day beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 25, at the Stonington Commercial Fish Pier.

You will enjoy wacky rowboat races, crafts, food, games and a codfish relay race.

The day concludes with the Tug of Towns, featuring residents of Deer Isle and Stonington.

IFW maintains a Hardship and Bereavement Fund for fishermen who’ve lost a boat; helps families during times of illness and grief; and maintains a scholarship for a Deer Isle-Stonington High School senior attending college.
