AUGUSTA – A Lincoln man has been selected to serve as deputy chief of the Maine Warden Service.

Gregg Sanborn, 38, will be responsible for the oversight of all field law enforcement and search and rescue activities within the warden service. He begins work July 26.

Sanborn will work directly under Col. Thomas Santaguida, who vacated the deputy chief position when he was promoted on July 4.

A game warden for nearly 15 years, Sanborn was awarded the Warden Service Supervisor of the Year Award in 2000 for his work as a sergeant. He is an incident commander for the search and rescue team.

Sanborn is a two-time recipient of the Meritorious Service Award for conduct above the ordinary course of duty. One incident involved the rescue of a teenage all-terrain vehicle rider who crashed through Mousam Lake, and the other the apprehension of two armed robbery suspects in Cumberland County.
