Brewer man summoned for threatening nurse at hospital

A Brewer man was issued a summons Sunday for criminal threatening stemming from an incident at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Henry Jenkins Sr., 45, was brought in for a psychiatric evaluation by Bangor police Officer Joshua Ouellette after Jenkins was found intoxicated and making threats to harm himself.

The registered nurse assigned to Jenkins said the man was verbally abusive to him and began shouting obscenities that could be heard throughout the emergency room, according to a report by Bangor police Officer Larry Morrill, who was stationed at EMMC.

Morrill’s report said Jenkins began threatening the nurse, who told Jenkins that he was just trying to help. Jenkins continued with threats, saying when he got out of the hospital he was going to harm the nurse’s family and that the nurse would find his cat in the mailbox, the report said.

After the nurse expressed concerns about Jenkins, Morrill ordered hospital staff to restrain him to the bed so as not to harm staff or other patients. The report said Jenkins continued to fight and curse, and Morrill had to slap him in the stomach to get him to relax.

Jenkins was issued a summons for criminal threatening and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 20.

A Bangor man faces several charges after he reportedly stole a car while intoxicated Monday and then ran from police when they tried to stop him.

Bangor police Officer Brandon Vafiades got a call from dispatch reporting that a black Toyota 4Runner was stolen from a parking lot at 591 Main St.

The dispatcher told Vafiades that Harold Maset, 49, was behind the wheel and that he had been drinking, the officer’s report said. The 4Runner belongs to Maset’s sister.

Vafiades watched the vehicle turn onto March Street and then he followed Maset.

When Vafiades turned on his blue lights, the 4Runner accelerated and turned onto Catell Street, heading back to the parking lot the vehicle was taken from.

The officer pulled in behind Maset, who left the vehicle and began running. Vafiades gave chase and eventually tackled Maset to the ground.

Vafiades’ report said Maset resisted while he was being handcuffed and the officer had to use pepper spray.

Maset was charged with unauthorized use of property, operating under the influence, operating after suspension (habitual offender status), violating conditions of release and refusing to submit to arrest.
