HOLDEN – No one was injured Monday in a three-car accident on Route 1A that tied up traffic for more than an hour.

At 11:35 a.m., the driver of a 1999 Volkswagen Golf caused a chain reaction when he rear-ended a 2004 Pontiac Vibe traveling east near the Holden Mall.

The Pontiac then rear-ended a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, according to Sgt. Eugene Fizell of the Holden Police Department.

The drivers of the Pontiac and Oldsmobile had slowed behind another car turning left into the Holden Mall, which houses Higgins’ Video Service and formerly the Christmas Shoppe.

The driver of the Volkswagen failed to slow in time to avoid the other two vehicles, Fizell said.

“His judgment was not up to speed. No pun intended,” Fizell said.

Fizell estimated the total damage to all three cars at $3,000.

Traffic returned to its normal flow just before 1 p.m., he said.
