CARIBOU – A truck sideswiped a car early Tuesday, sending one person to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Caribou police Officer Mark Gahagan said the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Lyndon Street.

Christopher Mazzerole, 27, of Caribou was headed south in a 1995 Ford truck when Gloria Flewelling, 65, of Caribou attempted to enter Lyndon Street in a 1999 Oldsmobile.

“She started to merge out, but because of a blocked view, she merged out too far,” Gahagan said Tuesday morning. “She said that it was a sign that blocked her view.”

Mazzerole’s truck sideswiped Flewelling’s car on the driver’s side door, according to the officer.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to Gahagan.

Flewelling, who suffered cuts and abrasions, was taken by ambulance to Cary Medical Center as a precaution, Gahagan said. Mazzerole was uninjured.

Hospital officials did not return phone calls regarding Flewelling’s condition Tuesday.

Gahagan estimated that Flewelling’s vehicle had $6,000 in damage, while $4,000 in damage was done to the front end of Mazzerole’s vehicle.

No charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
