Fibromyalgia support

BANGOR – Grace Walker will speak on the Feldenkrais Method of Movement at the next meeting of the Fibromyalgia Support Group 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at 12 Stillwater Ave.

The Feldenkrais Method of somatic education specializes in retraining movements with pain-free existence and the added benefit of elegant, graceful motion as the outcome.

After a four-year training program, Walker has been doing the method for six years. She has a practice in Bangor.

Maine Bureau of Insurance

BANGOR – Staff members of the Consumer Health Care Division, Maine Bureau of Insurance, will be on hand from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Bangor Public Library, to educate the public about health insurance, to answer questions or to take complaints regarding health insurance.

Bone and Joint Decade

BANGOR – Dr. Clifford Rosen of the Maine Center for Osteoporosis Research and Education at St. Joseph Hospital spoke July 15 at a luncheon briefing at the U.S. Capitol in Washington. The luncheon was sponsored by The United States Bone and Joint Decade, in cooperation with U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito and U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter.

Rosen, the immediate past president of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, chose as his topic, “Actions To Be Taken: The Need for Appropriations.”

The goal of the luncheon was to discuss the current state of osteoporosis among American men and women, the imposed burden on them, and possible research solutions to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
