FORT WORTH, Texas – Jake Whitesides of the Bangor Lumberjacks hit a three-run homer and a double, but it wasn’t enough as the Central League posted a 9-4 win over the Northeast League on Tuesday night in the 2004 All-Star Game at LaGrave Field.
Whitesides hit his shot in the fifth inning as the Northeast League tried to rally from a 5-1 deficit.
Lumberjack Donnie Ross, who was the Northeast League’s designated hitter, was 0-for-3 and reached base once when he was hit by a pitch. ‘Jacks pitcher Jerry Long pitched one inning, giving up two runs on four hits. He also struck out two.
Bangor skipper Kash Beauchamp helped manage the Northeast League.
Pensacola’s Andy Williams was named the MVP with two singles and four RBIs.
A crowd of 4,832 watched the first-ever all-star game between the two leagues.
The Lumberjacks continue the all-star break Wednesday. The team will be in Brockton today to begin a four-game series against the Rox and then will head home to Husson College’s Winkin Complex for a series against the New Haven Cutters beginning Monday.
