The continued record setting success of the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger means continued good news and assistance for the credit unions who raise the funds and for hunger organizations in the communities they serve.
Ten credit unions from the eastern Maine region were among the 36 Maine credit unions to receive a record $65,000 in community grants to distribute to hunger organizations of their choice in their own communities.
The record-setting amount was part of the release by the Maine Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee of its top Credit Unions for its 2003 Credit Union Campaign for Ending Hunger, which raised a record-setting $209,035.75. With no administrative costs or expenses, 100 percent of the funds raised stay in Maine and go directly to helping to end hunger.
The top 25 campaign fund-raisers in two categories received grants and will distribute them to local food banks and hunger organizations throughout the year.
The credit unions in central Maine to receive a community grant include Bangor FCU, Bangor Hydro FCU, Bansco CU, all of Bangor, EMMC FCU in Bangor, Maine Savings FCU in Hampden, Penobscot County FCU in Old Town, and Seaboard FCU in Bucksport.
