BAR HARBOR – The Abbe Museum has scheduled several workshops and demonstrations for all ages in the upcoming weeks. These include:
. The workshop for young basket makers, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24. Suitable for ages 9 to 15, participants will learn traditional Native American basket weaving techniques. Registration is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers.
. The workshop for young archaeologists from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28. Children ages 8 to 12 will create a mock archaeology site and learn how to excavate it. Registration is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
. A beading demonstration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 29. Charlene Francis will demonstrate the art of contemporary and traditional Native American beaded applique and loom work. Registration is free with museum admission.
. The fancy basket workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. Micmac artist Jane Zumbrunnen will teach participants to craft an ash basket. Registration is $70 for members and $100 for nonmembers.
. Free story times for 4 to 10 year olds at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, Friday, July 30, Friday, Aug. 6 and Friday, Aug. 20. Story time will feature traditional Wabanaki and other Native American stories.
