BANGOR – Area residents may have noticed something unusual parked in front of the Bangor Auditorium.

It’s big, it’s yellow, and Pat Sajak and Vanna White are painted on the sides.

The “Wheel of Fortune” Wheelmobile, scheduled to make an appearance at the Bangor Auditorium on Saturday, Aug. 21, and Sunday, Aug. 22, has rolled into town a month early.

According to “Wheel of Fortune” spokesperson Amy Prenner, the Wheelmobile was in Philadelphia over the weekend of July 17 and afterwards drove up to Maine.

“The Wheelmobile has never been to Maine before,” Prenner said, “so we’re really excited to make our premier appearance.”

The special vehicle has no appearance dates scheduled between the July date in Philadelphia and the August date in Bangor, so it’s parked in front of the auditorium until next month.

Every year more than 1 million people try to be contestants on “Wheel of Fortune,” so the Wheelmobile gives people across the country the opportunity to try out for television.

Participants fill out applications and then are called at random during the event to be interviewed and to play “Wheel of Fortune”-inspired games.

The most promising candidates are invited to participate in a final audition in the host city, and contestant coordinators select the individuals who will appear on the show.
