Bangor will be the top seed when the American Legion Zone 1 tournament opens play Thursday.

Bangor, which won a one-game playoff against Brewer Sunday, finished the regular season with a 20-3 record. Bangor beat Brewer 11-2 in a game in Hampden, which was necessary because both Bangor and Brewer had 19-3 records after play wrapped up Saturday.

Brewer (19-4) will be the No. 2 seed.

The six-team tournament will open at Mansfield Stadium at noon with Bangor facing No. 6 Lincoln (11-11). Brewer will face No. 5 Calais (12-10) at 4 p.m., followed by No. 3 Trenton (15-7) vs. No. 4 Penquis (13-9) at 8 p.m.

Play will continue Friday with games at noon, 4 and 8. There will be two games Saturday, which is a break from the traditional three games. Legion games will be played at 4 and 8 that day because a game between Red Sox alumni and the Bangor FireFighters which had been postponed from June was rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

There will be at least two Legion games Sunday at Mansfield.

The winner and runner-up from each zone tournament moves on to the state tourney in August.
