Cape Elizabeth, Augusta win two

BANGOR – Augusta West and Cape Elizabeth each recorded two victories over the weekend during the first two days of the state Little League baseball tourney for ages 11-12 at Taylor Field.

Augusta defeated Coastal of Blue Hill Saturday 14-0 and beat Rockland 11-1 Sunday. Cape Elizabeth edged East Biddeford 6-5 Saturday and shut out Coastal 9-0 Sunday.

Pool play continues in the tourney with three more games today. The top four teams will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal round after a day off.

In other tourney action, Lincoln beat Rockland 4-1 and East Biddeford tipped Lincoln 3-2.

Ivan Voisine hit a three-run homer to highlight a three-run fifth for Lincoln.

Devin Ledaite added an RBI double for the winners.

Derek Gustin scored on a passed ball for Rockland and Lance Bernier added a double.

Augusta 14, Coastal 0

Garrett Lucas knocked out a grand slam in the second inning for Augusta.

Ryan Minoty added a two-run home run, while Shaun Laney and Jacob Lachance each had solo shots.

Cape Elizabeth 6, E. Biddeford 5

An infield groundout by Matt Weiss drove in Ben Brewster with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for Cape.

Weiss also tripled and teammate Andrew Dickey doubled twice. Connor Moloney, Matt Rand, Tanner Garrity, and Kyle Danielson all singled.

Alec Luro led East Biddeford with a double and two singles. Trevor Fleurent added a double.

Keith Petrin drove in the winning run to break a 2-2 tie for East Biddeford in the bottom of the sixth.

Joey White, Alec Luro and Tom Mourmouras each singled for the winners.

Lance Bernier singled twice and doubled for Lincoln.

At Bangor East, Ben Brewster doubled three times and Andrew Dickey slammed a home run as Cape Elizabeth took its second victory.

Dickey also had a single and Connor Moloney singled three times. Sam St. Germain doubled and singled. Cameron Brown contributed a double.

Sam Sheehan doubled for Coastal.

Augusta West 11, Rockland 1

Garret Lucas and Ryan Minoty both hit home runs in Augusta West’s win.

Jacob Lachance doubled twice and Chris Robinson doubled once. Mike Poulin tripled and singled.

Nathan Hopkins, Nick Beal and Dylan Meklin all singled, with Meklin scoring Rockland’s run.

Auburn Suburban 4, Bucksport 1

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday, Chris Merrill scattered six hits, allowing one run and striking out six with no walks as Auburn Suburban held off Bucksport.

Chris Merrill had two RBI singles and Matt Meserve had one for Auburn Suburban.

Bucksport’s Louden Jellison led off the second inning with a double and scored the team’s only run on a double steal. Forrest Wardwell added two singles.

Saco advances to championship

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Saco defeated Bangor 8-5 Saturday and beat South Portland 6-0 Sunday to advance to Wednesday’s championship.

In other tourney action, Auburn Suburban eliminated Coastal of Blue Hill 8-5 Saturday and also eliminated Bangor 12-7 Sunday. Auburn plays South Portland today at 5 p.m. The winner advances to take on Saco and needs two victories to capture the title.

Saco broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh with three hit batsmen to drive in three runs with the bases loaded. Dan Ingraham’s two-run single capped the scoring. Bangor had rallied in the sixth when Tyler McDade drew a bases-loaded walk and Shane Walton scored on Mack Susi’s groundout.

Josh Sheehan chipped in with two singles and two RBIs for Saco. Christian Dionne singled twice and had a sacrifice fly and Ian Edwards added a double for Bangor.

Michael Muise scattered five hits while giving up three earned runs to lead Auburn.

Muise aided his own cause with three singles and an RBI. Eric Prue chipped in with a double and single. Josh Astbury had a two-run single for Coastal.

Auburn Suburban 12, Bangor 7

Corey LaRue hit a two-run single in the second to help Auburn Suburban knock out Bangor.

Adam Lutz had a triple and two singles for the winners. LaRue finished with two singles and four RBIs. Eric Prue had two singles and two RBIs.

Tyler McDade paced Bangor with three singles and two RBIs. Ian Edwards singled twice and Jordan Clarke had a double.

Saco’s Steve Scott struck out eight and allowed just two hits and two walks.

Scott also singled twice. Matt Roberts hit two singles and drove in a run. Kory Martin doubled and Don Ingraham added two singles.

Corey Davis and Tyler Kelly singled for South Portland.
