Lumberjacks rally for weekend split

BROCKTON, Mass. – The Bangor Lumberjacks rallied from a 5-1 seventh-inning deficit for a 7-6 victory over the Brockton Rox Sunday night.

The Rox beat the Lumberjacks 5-3 Saturday night.

The Lumbjeracks scored two in the seventh on a two-run double from Rolando Bello, three more in the eighth on a two-run single from Paul Powell and an RBI single from Bello, and one in the ninth on a RBI double from Kazuhiro Kohno.

The ninth-inning run would prove to be crucial, as Brockton was able to push across one in the ninth until Lumberjacks closer Lance Calmus shut the door.

Bangor’s Dave Martinez set a league record by getting hit by three pitches in the game.

In Saturday’s game, Brockton’s Derek Anderson struck out nine and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in 7 1/3 innings of work.

The Rox rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the first inning when a Mike Torres sacrifice fly scored a run.

Brockton piled on three more runs in the second.

Bangor’s Mark Burke slammed a three-run homer in the first inning after the Rox intentionally walked Derry Hammond with two outs. Jose Garcia also scored after leading off the game with a double.

Jerry Long picked up the loss for Bangor, allowing five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five in five innings. J.C. Huguet held the Rox to one hit and no runs in three innings of relief.
