A Bangor woman was summoned for assault early Friday after allegedly attacking several women outside of Benjamin’s Tavern.
Officer Michael Jewett of the Bangor Police Department responded to an assault complaint at the tavern after midnight Friday.
Upon arriving, Jewett spoke to a group of four witnesses, all women, who claimed that Kristina Mclaughlin, 25, assaulted them as they were sitting on the steps outside of the downtown bar.
Another witness said she was not assaulted, but claimed to have watched as Mclaughlin, unprovoked, attacked the group.
Several of the women had scrapes and bruises, according to reports. One of the witnesses said Mclaughlin had been “out of control” in the bar earlier.
Another witness claimed to have seen Mclaughlin stumbling outside of the bar, and said she asked Mclaughlin if she needed to use her cell phone to call someone.
Jewett’s report said that at that time Mclaughlin became “belligerent,” and attacked the woman, ripping her necklace off.
Jewett approached Mclaughlin, who he said was severely intoxicated, and asked her about the incident. Mclaughlin denied attacking any of the women in question. At that time, Jewett issued Mclaughlin a summons for assault.
A Levant man was arrested and charged with theft Thursday after he allegedly was caught stealing a bottle of whiskey from Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street in Bangor.
A Shaw’s loss prevention employee called Bangor police after allegedly watching Bobby Harvey, 23, remove the security tag from a bottle of Lord Calvert Canadian Whiskey and put the bottle in his pants.
According to reports, the employee followed Harvey as he walked past the checkout lines and into the Shaw’s parking lot. The employee then confronted Harvey in the parking lot, accusing him of stealing the bottle of whiskey.
The employee told police that Harvey at first denied the accusation, but eventually removed the bottle from his pants and placed it on the pavement.
Reports say that the employee then convinced Harvey to come back inside the store. Officer James Dearing of the Bangor Police Department arrived on the scene and placed Harvey under arrest.
The bottle was valued at $10.11. Harvey was charged with theft and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
A counterfeit $5 bill was found Friday morning at the West Side Restaurant in Bangor.
Bangor police Officer Myron Warner responded to the call. An employee of the restaurant said she discovered what looked like a fake $5 bill when she was going through the cash register.
The employees present said they didn’t know when the bill had been used. They added that the day before had been very busy.
Warner said the bill appeared different from a normal $5 bill, and seemed to be printed on paper with a different texture than usual bills.
Police have no leads at this time.
