2 men, juvenile arrested in Caribou robbery, assault

CARIBOU – Local police and an Aroostook County deputy sheriff on Saturday night made quick work of arresting three males suspected of assaulting and robbing a Caribou businessman in his home.

Travis Tuttle, 21, of Caribou was charged with robbery, assault and using a disabling chemical agent. Keith Wilcox, 20, of Woodland was charged with robbery and violation of bail, and a 16-year-old juvenile was charged with robbery. The two adults are being held in Aroostook County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

Police did not know whether the juvenile was held or released to his parents.

The trio probably will be scheduled for their initial court appearance today, somewhere in Aroostook County, police said.

Lt. Michael Gahagan of the Caribou Police Department said the owner of a local restaurant went home from work on Saturday night. At about 9:15 p.m., three people entered his home, demanding money.

The businessman was sprayed in the face with a chemical agent and robbed. Police believe the robbers may have been after the day’s business receipts that were in a money bag. The man also was pushed to the floor during the incident.

“He’s OK, and they left the scene quickly,” Gahagan said. “We obtained a description of the vehicle from physical evidence left at the scene.”

One hour later Deputy Sheriff Dan Robertson noticed along the Madawaska Road a vehicle matching the description given police.

The three alleged robbers were taken into custody without resistance. Caribou police Officers Mark Gahagan and Chris Thornton assisted.

One of the men may have been a past employee of the restaurant owner, Gahagan said.

At the time of the arrests, police recovered the money taken in the robbery.
