BAR HARBOR – McKay’s Public House evacuated its patrons at about 8 p.m. Sunday after an inner wall behind the grill caught fire, according to Fire Chief David Rand.
No one was injured. Firefighters opened up the wall both from the kitchen and dining room sides to extinguish the fire, Rand said Monday.
The water “caused quite a mess in there,” he reported.
Owner Brian Smith, said Monday he plans to reopen the Main Street restaurant Wednesday.
“It was relatively uneventful,” Smith said, adding that a part of the inner wall behind the grill smoldered, but that nothing burned. “It was mostly smoke,” he said.
The building is old, Smith said. “We’re going to rebuild a better firewall.”
Rand said Bar Harbor firefighters worked at the scene just 35 minutes.
