KITTERY – Kittery police are investigating what is described as an “acid bomb” that was found in the front yard of a home.
Sgt. Russell French said Harry Wyman, 66, found the bottle Sunday morning containing a potentially lethal mix of chemical ingredients found in common household products. French said the mixture could have created a chemical reaction and caused a deadly explosion if it was shaken or put under pressure.
The Maine State Police bomb squad was called to defuse the device, French said. Police have no suspects and don’t think Wyman was specifically targeted.
French said police were most concerned that a child would find the bottle and shake it.
“As a father, I can tell you that if my 11-year-old son found the bottle, he would have picked it up,” French said. “He would have tried to shake it, and that’s exactly what we don’t want to happen.”
