I recently received a request for contributions for the Caribou Community Wellness Center -the most ludicrous idea I have ever encountered. We have no jobs and business around Caribou, but we need a $5.3 million community center. Is that going to keep our youth from moving away and paying for the needed medicines and housing for our elderly and low-income families?

Money was put into the walking trail to help fitness, and how well has that trail been kept up? We need to encourage some business in Caribou instead of throwing our money into another harebrained idea that I bet the majority of residents won’t use. Has a poll been taken asking people how many would utilize this facility once it was built?

This sounds and looks great but where is the incentive for our youth? A six-lane swimming pool is not conducive to fun for our youth and with the closing of the outside pool, now there is nowhere for our children to go.

If we have this kind of money to throw around, let’s put our heads together and find something for our youth to enjoy at all ages.

I bet it wouldn’t cost as much.
