USDA Rural Development

Michael Aube, state director of the USDA Rural Development, announced that Martha “Marti” Doliber of Searsport has joined the USDA Rural Developent staff as an area assistant in the Bangor office.

Doliber’s responsibilities include providing technical and general information concerning Rural Development’s programs, including outreach and public information, loan servicing and processing activities, and general administrative activities

Doliber has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Husson College and has served in the Air Force and the National Guard.

Aube also announced that Veronica “Ronnie” Iannetta of South Portland has been promoted to loan specialist in the Scarborough office.

Her duties include administering and approving loans in the Single Family Housing Guaranteed program and loan making activities in the Single Family Housing Direct program.

Iannetta has worked in the Bangor, Lewiston and Scarborough offices. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Maine.

In addition, Valerie Flanders, who works out of the Rural Development State Office in Bangor, has been selected by the National Association of Credit Specialists of USDA Rural Development to hold the position of vice president of the association. She will represent more than 1,384 association members nationwide.

Society of CVBs

Greater Bangor played host to the August meeting of the New England Society of Convention and Visitors Bureaus earlier this week.

NESCVB comprises more than 20 representatives of CVBs throughout New England. The organization exists to promote New England as the premiere destination for meetings and conventions.

New hair studio

Innovations Hair Studio opened at 255 North Main St. this spring.

Tara Ellis said the business is adding a new service – makeovers from head to toe. The project will kick off Aug. 21 at the Bangor Mall, where Innovations will be working with three major stores to outfit their clients. Applications will be taken at the mall. Other services will include closet redesign.

Bucksport

Boat company

An Ellsworth boat company that has grown from a one-man operation to a team of 16 employees is planning to move to a new building in Bucksport’s industrial park.

The Union River Boat Co. has taken advantage of Bucksport’s “free land” program, whereby the town will give the company deeds to two town-owned lots in the industrial park. Owner Richard Ryder said he planned to move the company into a 15,000-square-foot building he will construct on the site.

The company creates fiberglass component parts, principally for boat building companies in the area. For example, the Hinckley Co. has been a longtime customer. Ryder said that Union River has made components for most of the 300 Hinckley picnic boats and would continue to do so for the company’s other craft.
