Six teenagers hurt when car hits pole

STOCKTON SPRINGS – Six teenagers were injured when their car left the Green Valley Road and struck a power pole Monday night.

The 15-year-old boy driving the car was charged with operating without a license. The 17-year old girl who let him drive her car was charged with allowing the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Bob Keating said the accident took place at 7:55 p.m. Monday. Joshua Schnarrs, 15, of Searsport was distracted while driving and unintentionally steered the 2000 Saturn into a ditch. Before he could get back on the roadway, the car struck the light pole.

Front-seat passenger, Kassie Corriveau, 18, of Stockton Springs, was pinned in the vehicle, and a hydraulic cutting tool was used to free her. She was the most seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was treated for fractures, said Keating.

The other five were able to get out of the car and were taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital. Crystal Ellis, 17, of Morrill, who allegedly allowed Schnarrs to drive, complained of neck pain. Sara Brown, 15, of Belfast and Albert Farias, 16, and Noland Farias, no age given, both of Stockton Springs, were treated for bumps and bruises.

Waldo County Sgt. Mark Shade and Deputies Dale Brown and Adam Paul were the investigating officers.

“There was no indication of speed or alcohol,” Keating said Tuesday. “It was just a kid that didn’t know how to drive.”
