The Maine Commission for Community Service is accepting applications for more than 300 AmeriCorps positions for its fall and winter cycles.
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. AmeriCorps members spend a year of their lives in service to others assisting literacy programs, environmental groups, neighborhood safety initiatives and other organizations providing essential community services.
Position openings include building affordable housing, preventive health care in Maine’s rural area, building accessibility ramps for the disabled and elderly, running after-school programs, trail building, helping Maine’s communities respond to disasters and much more.
In exchange for a year of service, members receive an $800-a-month living allowance, child care reimbursement, health insurance and, upon completion of service, a $4,700 education award to be applied to postsecondary tuition or existing student loans. Positions are available statewide, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
