NEWPORT – A 15-year-old Newport boy was in critical condition Friday after being treated for a pellet rifle wound to the head.

Newport Police and Rescue responded to a Newport home at 9 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken by ambulance to a LifeFlight helicopter, which took him directly to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

It was not clear how his injury occurred and whether others were involved.

Police on Friday were continuing their investigation into the accident, although they don’t believe foul play was involved. They declined to release further details.
