ORRINGTON – Penobscot County detectives are investigating a Saturday BB-gun shooting on the Fowler Road.

A Bangor family was traveling toward Center Drive when a shot from either a BB gun or a pellet rifle hit the van’s front right window, shattering the glass, according to Deputy Kurt Adams of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

It’s not clear if the shooting was accidental or intentional, Adams said.

“It’s kind of a random thing,” he said, adding that no evidence linked the suspect, a juvenile, to the four people in the van.

“Just the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.

Assisted by sheriff’s personnel, the Maine State Police and Holden police, Adams doesn’t know if the suspect was shooting from inside the home or outside.

“We’re not sure at this point,” he said Sunday.

Nobody was seriously injured, but a girl in the back seat of the van received minor cuts from the shattered glass, Adams said.

The Bangor family’s vehicle was the only one shot that police know of, he said, although it is possible there were others.

No charges have been filed, but the case remains under investigation, Adams said.
