The school teaches a very traditional form of karate-do known as Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito, a 300-year-old system of practical self-defense using punching, kicking, grappling and throwing combined with pressure point and joint manipulation. The school studies under the white crane.

Sensei Steve Apsega is the head instructor, with third-degree black belt training for 16 years. He has been teaching for several years with schools in Hermon and Orrington. Apsega is a certified member of the Okinawa Karate and Kobudo Federation and receives a visit from the grand master from Okinawa to train in New England every year.
