Moose collision leaves Sherman woman hurt

HOULTON – A Sherman woman was injured Sunday morning when her vehicle struck a young moose on the Interstate at the Houlton-Limerick Town Line.

Patricia Lord, 49, who received head and facial injuries, was taken by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital and was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Trooper Jeff Clark.

An EMMC nursing supervisor contacted late Sunday afternoon said Lord was being evaluated.

Clark said the approximately 350-pound moose ran out in front of Lord’s vehicle at about 6:40 a.m., and she was unable to avoid hitting it. The moose went through the vehicle’s windshield, Clark said. Lord was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision that killed the moose, he said.

Lord’s 2001 Buick was heavily damaged.

Clark was assisted at the scene by other troopers and the Houlton Fire Department.
