BANGOR – The Bangor Lumberjacks recorded two shutouts Saturday, blanking the Aces in a doubleheader, 1-0 in the first game and 4-0 in the second in Northeast League action. Both were seven-inning games.

Sunday’s game was postponed due to rain.

The opener featured strong pitching performances from Adam Thomas and Lance Calmus, who combined on a one-hit shutout. Thomas (7-4) worked the first six innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out two and walking two. Calmus pitched the seventh for his eighth save.

The only run the Lumberjacks needed came in the bottom of the fourth on a solo homer by Jose Garcia off Aces starter Mario Gonzalez. Gonzalez who six innings, allowing four hits, the one run with three walks and five strikeouts.

Rolando Bello singled twice for Bangor and Mark Burke added a single.

In the second game, the shutout went to J.C. Huget and John Boker. Huget (4-3) went 5 2/3 innings, scattering just three hits, a walk and five strikeouts. Boker got the final four outs, giving up a hit and a walk.

Bangor scored all four of its runs in the third. Ryan Kane led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a Shin Uchino sacrifice. The big blow came on a two-run single by Brad Hargreaves, scoring Dave Martinez, who singled, along with Kane. The other two runs came on a two-run single by Kazuhiro Kohno.

Sunday’s game was rained out, and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Friday at 5 p.m. Halloween Night will still take place, in which fans who wear costumes get free admission.
