Bangor teen arrested on weapon violation

A Bangor teenager was arrested Sunday evening at Pickering Square for carrying a concealed weapon.

Bangor police Officer George Spencer hid underneath the overhang of the parking garage and used binoculars to watch the popular downtown spot for suspicious activity, his report said.

After only a short time, Spencer saw a group of three men light what appeared to be a marijuana pipe, the report stated.

The officer, with assistance from Sgt. Ed Potter, approached the group and searched each male, finding a .22-caliber handgun in the right rear pocket of Todd Davis, 18, of Bangor.

Davis was arrested, taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Another male, Christopher Cotner, 28, no hometown given, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after Spencer found him holding a glass pipe containing marijuana residue, the officer wrote in his report.

A Bangor couple reported a loaded gun stolen from their apartment sometime Sunday.

Joshua Wood, 22, called Bangor police Sunday evening and told Officer Shawn Green that someone had broken into the apartment and taken a 9mm handgun that was hidden beneath the mattress.

Wood and his live-in girlfriend, Amber Gallentine, 18, left on Sunday morning, and when they returned that night, the couple noticed items out of place, Wood told the officer.

The suspect reportedly gained entrance to the apartment through a rear window. Green observed a screen that had been cut and shoeprints on a lawn chair that was placed directly underneath the window, the police report stated.

Green also saw a muddy footprint on a pillowcase in the apartment and a brown paper bag with ammunition on the bed. Wood told the officer that the ammo had been removed from a dresser drawer where he kept it.

Wood told Green that a friend, Vicky, had agreed to feed the couple’s cats and that he had given her a key. Wood did not have her number or address. Green wrote in his report that he found it suspicious that someone had randomly targeted the couple’s apartment.

The officer told the couple to make a list of people who might have known about the gun. Wood did not have any paperwork on the gun but told Green that he purchased it at Van Raymond Outfitters “awhile ago.”
