Ames A/E

Judy Graebert has been promoted to lead architect at Ames A/E. She will oversee the building design group and the building design process. She will assist as a technical expert on specialized designs.

Graebert joined Ames A/E three years ago and has experience in all areas of architectural design.

Bangor Savings Bank

The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded a grant to Jobs for Maine Graduates Inc., a nonprofit corporation that provides a school-to-career transition model for students in grades seven through 12 and beyond.

Jobs for Maine Graduates helps raise the aspirations of students at the secondary and post-secondary levels. It teaches 37 core competencies in six sets of skills. Reaching more than 197 communities, Jobs for Maine Graduates serves approximately 2,500 students at 49 schools.

The grant will provide funding for the Career Association Program in which all Jobs for Maine Graduates students are enrolled. The program offers activities that develop leadership activities, citizenship, social development and career preparation.

Fleet Bank

Fleet Bank has awarded a $15,000 grant to the Penquis Community Action Incubator Without Walls program. The grant will enable Penquis CAP to provide small business training and technical assistance at no cost to entrepreneurs in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.

The Incubator Without Walls program helps entrepreneurs start or expand business with five or fewer employees. More than 200 individuals received training or technical assistance from the program last year.

A portion of the grant will be used to sponsor MarketPlace, an annual event where small businesses in eastern Maine may showcase their products and services to the public. This year MarketPlace will be held Nov. 13 at the Bangor Auditorium.

Bangor Savings Bank

The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded a grant to the National Center for Student Aspirations at the University of Maine. The center serves as a central resource to provide leadership, resources, research and interventions to help schools improve educational environments.

The grant will provide funding for the center’s Students Take the Lead, a one-day summit offered to children in grades five through 12. The summit is an action-based leadership program in which participants are asked to identify a problem in their schools or communities they wish to address.
