ALS support group

BANGOR – Neurologist Dr. Sally Kirkpatrick will be the guest speaker at the meeting of the ALS support group 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at OHI, Freedom Parkway, Hermon.

The schedule for the rest of the year is: Sept. 16, Fran Lee, Social Security; Oct. 21, Wes Smith, Alpha One; Nov. 11; and Dec. 9.

Meetings are open to persons with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and caregivers.

New first aid course

BANGOR – Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Community Wellness Service will offer a new course in first aid according to American Heart Association guidelines.

The eight-hour program includes information on general first aid principles, medical emergencies, injury emergencies and environmental emergencies. The course also includes adult, child and infant CPR and introduction to automated external defibrillator. Participants will practice hands-on skills in small groups and discuss real life scenarios.
