ELMIRA, N. Y. – A passed ball followed by a throwing error to third base by Elmira catcher Ryan Smith gave the Bangor Lumberjacks at 9-8 10th-inning win over the Pioneers Wednesday night.

Elmira had tied the game in the ninth when Bangor shortstop Shin Uchino booted a routine groundball, making it 8-8.

Bangor’s Paul Powell cranked a grand slam to put Bangor up 4-0 in the top of the fourth, but the Pioneers answered in their half of the inning as Jeremy Dodson hit a two-run double and Smith followed with an RBI single.

The Lumberjacks added two more runs in the fifth while the Pioneers scored one. Bangor then increased its lead to 7-4 in the seventh, but Elmira tied it on when Dodson hit a two-run single and Jobu Morita drew a bases-loaded walk.

Lance Calmus (5-3) recorded the victory for Bangor.

Bangor plays Elmira again tonight at before returning home for six games.
