A patient at the emergency room of Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor was issued a summons on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a nurse who was trying to restrain her at the time.
Bangor police Officer Brad Hanson responded to a report at 2:14 a.m. that Nicholle Worcester of Bangor had struck a nurse several times and bitten her on the left hand while being put in restraints. The nurse said she was attempting to put Worcester, 19, in restraints because she was being combative.
The nurse had no visible marks on her hand or arm from the alleged assault. When Hanson attempted to issue a summons for assault on an emergency-care provider, Worcester flung the document on the floor and tried to throw her pen at Hanson, the officer reported. Hanson told Worcester that if she didn’t sign the summons, she would go to jail. Worcester’s mother eventually convinced her to sign.
While escorting Worcester out of the hospital, Hanson reported that the patient said she had not assaulted the nurse, but that she would.
