Lumberjacks split with Aces

BANGOR – Bangor rookie righthander J.C. Huguet shut out the Aces in the first game 3-0 to give the Lumberjacks a doubleheader split in Northeast League baseball action at Winkin Complex Friday night.

Eddie Gerald hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to rally the Aces by the Lumberjacks 5-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Huguet scattered five hits while walking only one and striking out three to improve to 5-3.

Paul Powell gave Huguet the only run he would need with an RBI single in the second, scoring Jose Garcia. Garcia had singled and advanced when Josh Tranum drew a walk.

The Lumberjacks added single runs in the third and fourth innings on a sacrifice fly by Shin Uchino and another RBI single by Powell.

In the second game, Bangor scored two runs in the first on Huguet’s RBI double and Mark Burke’s RBI single. The Lumberjacks added two more runs when Burke cranked a two-run homer to put them up 4-2 in the top of the eighth.

Bangor starter Adam Thomas walked Aces leadoff hitter Andy Neufeld in the bottom half of the inning. J.P. Schmidt followed with a single, setting the stage for Gerald’s three-run home run.

The Lumberjacks play the Aces again Saturday and Sunday before beginning a three-game home series against the Quebec Capitales on Tuesday through Thursday.
