Man accused of OUI found with drugs

A man arrested for driving drunk was also in possession of marijuana and painkillers Friday, according to the Orono Police Department.

Officer Scott Lajoie responded to a report from the Maine State Police that a young man had been seen pumping gas at the Big Apple Store on Main Street in Orono and was visibly intoxicated.

Lajoie administered field sobriety tests to Jeremy Elliott, 24. He did poorly on the tests and his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit, according to Lajoie.

Lajoie said Elliott, who has addresses in Bangor, Orono and New Hampshire, passively resisted the arrest. Police found marijuana and large amounts of prescription painkillers in his vehicle. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A Bangor man driving erratically on Interstate 95 was arrested Friday for driving drunk.

Sgt. Doug Tibbetts of the Maine Warden service noticed a blue Volvo station wagon making jerky movements and passing a car on the right while driving southbound on the highway near the Hogan Road. Tibbetts stopped the car, driven by Shawn E. Russell, 35, after the Broadway exit.

Tibbetts, assisted by Sgt. Chris Dyer, performed field sobriety tests on Russell. Russell failed the tests, Tibbetts said.

He was taken to the Bangor Police Department for a breathalyzer test and was over the legal limit, according to Tibbetts.

Dyer arrested Russell and took him to Penobscot County Jail.

Orono police summoned a Bangor man for possession of drug paraphernalia Thursday after he and another vehicle collided near Kelly Road in Orono.

David Berry, 18, drove into the path of a vehicle attempting to make a right turn onto Kelly Road. The two cars collided, causing about $2,000 in total damage. Berry said he hadn’t seen the vehicle but was sorry he had hit it, according Orono police Officer Lee Miller.

Berry allowed Miller to search his vehicle, in which the officer found a marijuana pipe. Berry said he was aware that the pipe was in his car, but said it was not his.
